At Galaxy Outside School Hours, we aim to provide a positive and inclusive environment where children, families and staff can be happy, feel supported and build friendships & partnerships with the wider community.
We strive for GOSH to be a place where everyone, regardless of age, culture or ability, feels valued and respected and are comfortable to express their ideas and feelings and know that they will be treated as equals.
We encourage laughter, silliness, exploration and celebrate individuality, diversity and achievements.
GOSH is a place where children have the chance to make choices, be part of decision making, be adventurous, learn responsibility, play and most of all have fun.
Our GOSH Expectations & Values guide our behaviour and inspire us to be honest, respectful, show kindness, look after each other and always try our best.
Our hope is that GOSH is a place where we can all learn, grow and develop together.
Our Mission Statement – Philosophy in Action
We believe in a holistic and shared approach to the wellbeing and upbringing of children. We strive to maintain a shared approach to children’s wellbeing by promoting and fostering open communication and collaborative partnerships between children, parents, staff and the wider community. Staff exemplifies strong, responsive relationships and models teamwork to set and achieve common goals.
Children, families and staff are valued and respected as unique individuals. Staff works closely with children and families to ascertain children’s ideas, interests, opinions and abilities. We embrace the diversity within our community by celebrating the characteristics that define us as individuals and respecting the unique values and priorities of others. We are constantly searching for ways to define our individual identities and recognize children’s differing physical, emotional and social needs. Our focus on flexibility allows us to adapt our program accordingly to cater for these ever evolving needs.
As educators we value the importance of learning through play. We recognize a variety of play types & program to intentionally create an environment that is rich in creative opportunities such as self-expression, exploration and spontaneous experiences. Our focus on children’s choices and our shared approach to programming cultivates enthusiasm, creativity, curiosity & imagination and contributes to children’s positive self-identity.
We believe that appropriate risk taking contributes to children’s physical, intellectual and emotional intelligence. Staff support children to explore appropriate risk taking situations and are involved in reflective communication with children regarding perceived risks and potential consequences. Our focus on the process, irrespective of the outcome, encourages children to embrace these experiences as learning opportunities.
We recruit and staff with intentionality and are committed to ongoing professional development and a reflective practice. We encourage the development of autonomy and increasing responsibility amongst both staff and children. Our ‘Expectations & Values’ guide and inspire us to take increasing responsibility and make a positive contribution to our world. We are committed to our own journey as Educators and nurturing children through their middle years of childhood. Our Philosophy, observation, evaluation and planning cycle, allows us to take a reflective approach on all aspects of centre life. This ongoing reflective practice is invaluable as we continue to learn, grow and develop together.
